I was just diagnosed with herpes a couple days ago when I had my first outbreak. It doesn’t feel real yet but I don’t know what to expect. I am not ready to tell my friends or family yet but I need some support. I have told my lifelong partner and all went well especially because she’s the one who gave it to me. What do I expect for future outbreaks? How do I prevent them? The pain I feel right now is extremely intense and nearly unbearable and I’m scared of another outbreak because I never want to feel this pain again. Will it always be this bad?

    Hi Beanie,

I know exactly how you feel. I am terrified to have another outbreak because the first one took a really hard toll on me physically, mentally and emotionally. I am currently taking Valtrex daily along with vitamins to prevent future outbreaks from occurring and to put my mind at ease. I think you’ve already experienced the worst of it, since they say the first one is always the most painful. Some people don’t experience another outbreak after the first. Please stay hopeful and know you are not alone!

Hi the day after my fathers funeral I found out I had HSV2. I still can’t grasp how.
I keep thinking back to a time a few weeks ago I was desperate and raced into a toilet after a girl and when I sat down, something felt horrible. My partner does not have herpes, and I’ve slept with no other person.
I’m still coming to terms and haven’t told anyone yet. I had a small sore appear on the back of my upper leg under the cheek of my bum.
I had it swabbed as it really hurt, I also have flu like symptoms. The test results came back as hsv2. I’m devastated. Why do I feel guilty when I haven’t done anything wrong!

HSV2 cannot be contracted through objects, it is a common myth the only way you could have contracted this is through skin to skin contact in the region of the first outbreak.
